I do prefer this, but can see why the later version wanted to address any doubt.

That said, there are some inspired sections in the rules (with ref to 'Anatomy of Victory' references) such as pike defence vs horse.

I have been convinced to rebase my forces in line with the pike and shotte blocks used in these rules, such that I can show strong vs weak pike defence.

This may result in some tinkering of the rules - and in recent conversation with Stephen over at 'Sound Officers' Call', we've been experimenting with some turn sequences. I may develop something here, though am keen to keep the unique period flavour where I can.

So, I'm not sure I would play straight BtLB again, but certainly it has influenced my thinking about where to go next. I have several Irish battles in mind, so will develop as I go...also considering doing a version of Aughrim with Volley and Bayonet, as my bases are still the right size - so must do this before I rebase !!!Duc de Gobinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10668407600014604176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5763828223576460584.post-17442908499630416582015-07-29T05:48:06.936-07:002015-07-29T05:48:06.936-07:00Excellent game photos and enlightening rules' ...Excellent game photos and enlightening rules' review.
Do you plan on giving BtLB more outings or was this playing sufficient to prompt a move onto something else in search of more suitable game play?Jonathan Freitaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07862373894196924886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5763828223576460584.post-22499074734067664472015-06-21T15:57:20.670-07:002015-06-21T15:57:20.670-07:00I agree that troop quality should be a big driver ...I agree that troop quality should be a big driver in any set of rules and (most do address troop quality to greater or lesser degree, but nor do I want to see Elite types too strong or unbeatable as they did have their off days :-)
Piquet mechanics do pretty much revolve around quality of units and command structures but this is offset by big luck factors (not too everyone's taste) in draw of cards and the possible extreme results in opposing dice rolls.
As you know I am very much a fan of the 'chaos' types so may be biased towards PK and its derivatives :-) Sgt Steinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17805201299484374889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5763828223576460584.post-22642778721810423962015-06-21T14:18:52.023-07:002015-06-21T14:18:52.023-07:00Yes, a great game - cheers.

To obtain sufficient depth one needs some complexity or else a high level of abstraction such as Maurice. Guess that is why I like stuff such as FOB or Piquet which gets close to my ideal of playability versus historical flavour.
Probably why I like to play various rule sets rathe than one

Looking forward to our next game Sgt Steinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17805201299484374889noreply@blogger.com
