It's always difficult to keep focus with so many things to get excited about in the hobby...and that's not even counting all of the new 'shinys' on the market.
I did of course cave in and buy Sam Mustafa's 'Blucher'. Being a dyed in the wool Volley and Bayonet fan, and the scale involved, I couldn't resist. Of course, the excellent Maurice rules by Sam also helped make my decision.
Now I have card holders and markers to get, but the game looks wonderful - and may even give me an excuse to paint my 2mm collection, or can of course be played with the cards for the 100 Days campaign.
Other 'targets' of course include:
- Stephen's rules hack of the 'War Game' for Horse & Musket.
- Something with WW III.
- Squad Leader in miniature.
- WWI
- Modern - with FUBAR or possibly a return to Force on Force.
- Ancients with Sword & Spear (requires painting).
- My American Revolution / AWI project (requires speed painting).
GAAAAH! So many things to do.
Staying on target - very hard. I too have the Blucher rules. Had one game, looking forward to more, but I have other projects that are competing for my attention.
ReplyDeleteI know, hard to focus on so many nice things. Perhaps if I found an alternative to work, I would have more time. Where's my lotto ticket?
DeleteI've given up staying on target, I'm weak. One day I hope to actually finish a period????
ReplyDeleteI don't know Ray, your 15mm Nine Years War stuff is a fantastic and large collection. Always love to see those pics. And I see it got a mention on the League of Augsberg site. Excellent pics.
DeleteFinishing a project would be nice - an admirable goal! I am re-organizing the gaming area and that means that my table is currently out of commission! Can't wait to see your "The War game" hack come to life (I will do the same on my table with AWI or Napoleonic). FUBAR sounds like a great game to try again - perhaps in 15mm as I'm switching over to almost all 15mm.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to try the rules soon Stephen. Do they have an official name yet? 'Old School War Game' perhaps (OSWiG for short).
DeleteI'm thinking a late 17th century or 18th century affair. I love the concept in that there are effectively 200 years of warfare to play with. I guess Black Powder does the same but your rules are better.
Thank you sir! Let's give them a try. And speaking of staying on target,
Deleteafter reading through Paddy Griffith's book I'm tempted to have a go at creating a Corps / Army commander home-brewed rules set as well.
I am working hard to stay on target this year (15mm American Revolution, 15mm WWII Nuts! skirmish, and 28mm Zombies), but I would be interested in hearing how you like Blucher once you play a game of it. I'm like you, enjoy Volley & Bayonet, but Blucher looks very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes, I will be looking at it soon Jeff. It reads really well.
DeleteI'm gaining new love for the AWI period by reading your excellent research by the way :)
