Retro Movie Posters with Retro Casts

Ok - this is not the forum for such wasteful frivolity, I appreciate. This is supposed to be proper wargaming?!?!

I have however, always had a preference for 70s and 80s style movies, as opposed to the clinical, effects based, formulaic romps that we seem to be subjected to today, given the significantly shorter attention span of the modern teenager/young adult (and discuss). They've even made a mess of much of the re-told Star Wars saga (except Rebels). Given Joseph Campbell's basic mythology based story-telling tropes that Lucas originally embraced, I was convinced that it wasn't possible ...until Rogue One...

With that in mind, I therefore very much appreciate some of these 'retro' movie posters, where modern movies have been hypothetically 're-cast' with the the 1950s/60s/70s stars of an earlier time, and been given a suitably retro poster which harks back to an earlier age, with no cell-phones.

This is not just movie nostalgia...this is magic!

Some of these more modern pieces, if done back in the day with classic actors and actresses, would have been unforgettable.

'Who does one call...'

This one especially would have been quite awesome...
Instant classic

Better than more modern attempts surely...

Chris Walken as T1000 !

  1. An odd post indeed! But a few images did catch my imagination - Matthew Broderick’s still a kid in Hellboy, and - wow! - Sam J Jones as Captain America? Wasn’t Flash Gordon enough? And whatever happened to the guy? He’s cult! Pam Grier as Ripley. O - M - G !!!!! I could go on...........
    Absolutely brilliant stuff this!

    1. I know right?
      I found these by accident.
I love Ghostbusters' 'who does one call?'
...and Pam would ahve rocked in 1970s Aliens.

  2. Most amusing. Reckon Al Pacino would be miscast as Wolverine, though: too small a guy. Marlon Brando could pull it off, and possibly James Dean as well. On the other hand, Patrick McGoohan as Gandalf would have been inspired casting. Otherwise: James Earl Jones as the Voice of Smaug, and Yul Brynner as Magneto.

    1. Some inspired choices there.
I think the Film Noir Bladerunner with Bogart and David Bowie as Dr Strange are epic.

    1. Thanks Steve. A classic line up in that re-imagined Expendables. It would have been an epic version.

    2. Oh yeah, and with Tommy guns, schmeissers, and grease guns instead of the crazy, double shooty stuff they used in the actual movies!

They also need the 90 round MP40 mags that they had in 'Where Eagles Dare' LOL
